South Shore Fall Activities and Things to Do

Kids with PumpkinsThere is no better season to enjoy the South Shore than in the fall. It's usually vibrant during this time of the year with beautiful foliage, and the cooling temperatures mean there isn't a shortage of awesome outdoor activities you can explore with your friends and family.

Even so, we understand that sometimes finding the perfect activity might be tricky, especially if you are new to South Shore. Therefore, we suggest you take a look at our list of some of the most exciting fall activities on the South Shore.

Join in on The Fall Festivals

The South Shore has a long list of festivals that go down in the fall. These local festivals can be a surprising source of fun that will definitely be worth your time if you can attend. We are just into the month of October, and Oktoberfest will be on everyone's minds. The Halloween kickoff is also a popular festival that you shouldn't miss. Remember, the fall in South Shore features a variety of local festivities, and you should make sure you attend at least one.

A Day Trip to the Boston Suburbs and Neighborhoods

There are many suburbs or neighborhoods to visit in Boston. Exploring these neighborhoods is bound to give you a complete and authentic Boston experience since each Boston neighborhood carries a unique piece of history and culture. A trip to the Boston suburbs offers you a day full of fun thanks to the many attractions and activities. Consider taking a day trip to the Crane Estate in Ipswich or a sightseeing walk on Newburyport's streets. There are a ton of other places you can still visit and the list is almost endless.

An Outdoor Visit to Popular Wildlife Zones

There are so many wildlife places you can go to on South Shore. These places only get better in the fall since you will probably get a chance to see more animals. You can enjoy the spectacle of the migrating sand cranes at the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area. At the nature conservancy in Kankakee, you will see acres of beautiful scenery and maybe some American bison usually transferred into greener areas during the fall. The Friendship Botanic gardens are also a must-visit if you would like to be treated to the stunning view of the transformation of trees due to autumn.

Go for Apple, Sunflower, and Pumpkin Picking

Few places on earth allow you to visit with your family and help harvest apples, sunflowers, and pumpkins for fun. Several farms in Boston usually have such activities, and the 40+ acre Fair Oaks farm is one such place. The fair Oaks farm also hosts fall events like the Oktoberfest, Cowtoberfest, Music on the Porch, and Harvest Hoe-down, which can’t afford to miss. Another farm you need to visit is the Harvest Tyme Farm Park. Besides the fun bonding activities, the farm also offers incredible photoshoot opportunities with your family.

Here's a list of the best apple-picking orchards to check out and enjoy this fall.

Try the South Shore Quest

Do you love exploratory quests? If you do, then you will love the South Shore quests. The quests allow you to tour the South Shore and discover trails other visitors have walked. The quests are available at different places, though the most popular ones are the New England Wildlife Center, Norwell, Holly Hill Farm, and Weymouth. It's officially questing season until November 15th. If this is an activity you would love to experience, try it soon before the season ends.

The South Shore is an expansive area with a long list of awesome fall activities you can enjoy. If you are visiting this fall, don't limit yourself to only the activities on this list since there are many more you can try.
