If you live in or around the whimsical town of Wellesley, then you are no stranger to the summer's biggest celebration that is just around the corner!
The 2022 Wellesley's Wonderful Weekend kicks off on May 21st and is proud to be celebrating its 54th year of fun! This year's theme is the "90th Anniversary of the Purple Heart." All local veterans are invited to join the parade, the reviewing stand, and the reception. All you have to do is sign up for official registration. Or perhaps you know of someone you would like to recognize as an honorable guest? Members of the Wellesley community are also encouraged to nominate individuals for recognition.
Hosted by the Wellesley Celebrations Committee, this annual bash takes months of meticulous planning and would not be possible without the participation of dedicated volunteers or the support of generous donors and local business sponsors.
The entire weekend is packed with a huge lineup of activities, including the Hunnewell Fun Festival with rides and games, free eye exams and a pancake breakfast at Wellesley High School, Art in the Park, an antique car show, a 5K Run for adults and a Kids Fun Run for the little ones, various citywide open houses, a historical scavenger hunt at Wellesley Square, and yes…even a Pooch Parade for the pups of Wellesley, plus so much more! View a complete Wellesley's Wonderful Weekend lineup.
The main events of Wellesley's Wonderful Weekend include the parade on Sunday afternoon to honor all veterans and those who selflessly serve our country and communities. The route will start on Washington Street and continue westbound to Wellesley Square, with the Reviewing Stand located outside of Wellesley Village Church. Shuttle transportation will also be provided to the parade site from the Wellesley Community Center.
When passing the Town Hall War Memorial site, all military units, color and honor guards, and any veteran's organizations will render a proper salute in honor of those who gave their lives in the service of our country. Proper salutes will also be given to honored guests in the Reviewing Stand.
After the parade, head over to Hunnewell Field for the annual City Wide Picnic with food provided by the delicious Captain Marden's (additional food options will be available as well). Here you can enjoy food, drinks, and lots of fun with games, rides, crafts, ponies, and so much more! The Reminisants and a special performance by The Wellesley Theatre Group will be providing entertainment all evening long. Although masks are not required, there will be hand sanitizing stations located throughout the field.
At 9:00 pm, wrap up Wellesley's Wonderful Weekend by enjoying a finale of the biggest and the best fireworks lighting up the Wellesley sky right there at Hunnewell Field.
