Best South Shore Beaches to Visit This Summer

Beach on the South Shore MAThe South Shore region of Boston is home to museums, memorials, and historic buildings attracting visitors from far and wide every summer. The region also has a lot of great beaches to explore and enjoy in the summer, and all year long. There is ample opportunity for swimming, surfing, fishing, picnicking and more on the beaches. Here are five of the best beaches on the South Shore to visit this summer.

Duxbury Beach Park

This beach is a great place to swim and body surf. You can also enjoy a little paddling and take comfort knowing the full-service bathhouse, restaurant, and snack shop are open during the summer. The beach is open to residents and non-residents. This beach is also home to a new beach wheelchair with a 5-point safety strap and floats to make the beach more accessible to all visitors. Dog walking permits are available at the town hall. Explore homes for sale in Duxbury, MA

Bathing Beach

This beach on the bay in Hingham is best enjoyed during high tide, so the young swimmers in your family can enjoy the sand between their toes as they take a quick dip in the water. This is a quiet beach enjoyed by locals looking for a place to picnic while enjoying views of World’s End across the harbor. There are grassy areas for children to play, a quarter mile brick walkway, and free parking. Dogs are not permitted on the waterfront from June until September. Explore homes for sale in Hingham, MA

Egypt Beach

This beach is one of five operated by the town of Scituate. Pedestrians are free, but you will need a beach sticker to park. The water can be very cold for swimming, but the beach is very popular for surfers. The stony beach is small but very beautiful. A path from the parking lot leads you through grape vines to a small pond bordered with flowers and frequented by ducks and swans. Explore homes for sale in Scituate, MA

Nantasket Beach

This beach, part of the Nantasket Beach Reservation, in Hull is one of the busiest beaches in the Greater Boston area. With over a mile of beach on the Atlantic Ocean, light gray sand soft on the feet, and acres of tidal pools to explore during low tide it is easy to understand why the beach is a popular destination. The ocean can be a little flat here during the summer for surfing, but there are some sandbar peaks to enjoy for a quick local day out. If you are new to surfing, or the kids need to earn their chops, there are several options in Hull including the Northeast Surfing Academy and the South Shore Surf Camp to get you up and riding the waves with expert guidance. Bassing Beach

This sweet little 3/4 mile stretch of beach is accessible only by boat. It is located in Scituate and is a favorite of the residents of Cohasset. It is an excellent place for swimming, fishing, and picnicking. The beach, managed by the Cohasset Conservation Trust, has been a popular bass fishing destination for many years. Historically anglers would say they were “going bassing” and the beach ultimately became known as Bassing Beach. Explore homes for sale in Cohasset, MA
